Community Hospital Surgery Department Expansion
Munster, IN
The Pangere Corporation completed major renovations to The Community Hospitals surgery department. The project began with the complete demolitions and re-build of the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) and moved on to the construction of Neuro Spine operating rooms. The neuro spine rooms were constructed in an area that previously held the Nurseries Neonatal Care Unit (NICU). This department was relocated before demolishing the space to construct the operating rooms. During this segment of the project, Pangere installed a new 50,000 lbs custom air handler unit and piping system that serves the new and future renovated surgery areas while taking out of commission the old HVAC equipment and still maintaining the owner’s active surgery department.
The project required an immense amount of coordination between the hospital staff and Pangere’s construction team. During each segment of the renovations, Pangere crews worked with the hospital to ensure Interim Life Safety Measures were in place as well as stringent Infection Control procedures. Working around patient areas, the Pangere team work vigorously to ensure a flawless level of infection control that would prevent harmful contaminants from escaping the construction site and potentially harming the hospitals patients. In addition, Pangere planned work to accommodate the active surgery department. This included scheduling penetrations and friction causing activities into a tight window so that the hospitals surgeons would not have to deal with construction noise throughout the entire construction project. With Pangere’s leadership team in charge, field staff and subcontractors were able to seamlessly complete the renovations for the surgery department without causing hindrances to operations. The project is a segment of the hospitals major planned changes to its surgery department.
