Intensive Care Unit Renovations
East Chicago, IN
Capitalizing on Pangere’s healthcare experience, the Community Foundation of Northwest Indiana tasked us with completing the complete renovation of St. Catherine’s ICU. The project consisted of the demolishing and complete rebuild of the roughly 5,000 sf. ICU. The project included 16 new and friendlier patient rooms, a centralized monitoring area for ICU staff, an isolation suite, a respiratory room, as well as expanded storage.
Understanding the significance of working in an operational hospital, Pangere ensured all its workers were up to date and well versed in infection control. Pangere requires all healthcare employees to have received infection control training before starting any work in a healthcare facility. Pangere employees maintained all proper protections for controlling the construction debris and worked closely with the hospital staff to ensure the renovation would not affect the hospitals ability to care for patients in any way. With worker buy-in, construction staff was able to maintain a low profile as to not distract from patient care.
Project planning was key to ensuring construction was not noticeable. Pangere carefully planned out routes so that workers would be seen by as few people as possible. In addition, Pangere managers planned material deliveries and debris removal to avoid going through the hospital in any way. This was done by building a platform on the adjoining roof and using crane lifts to bring in material and a chute to haul demolition debris out. This method of delivering material and supplies to the site allowed for Pangere to complete the project without having significant time in the hospitals hallways.
